Free to Play — For Real
One of the most exciting features of Conquest of Fates is that it’s truly free-to-play—the first of its kind in physical form.
As we’ve introduced the game to players, reviewers, and even investors, one question keeps popping up:
“Why?”
Let’s break it down.
The Problem With Packs
Most trading card games rely on the classic booster pack system. While Magic: The Gathering and Pokémon supercharged this concept in the 1990s, it’s a model that’s been around since Topps stuck baseball cards in gum packs.
It’s fun. It’s exciting. And yes, we plan to lean into that thrill.
But we believe it’s not the best foundation for how players should get the cards they need to actually play the game.
How It Works
Free-to-play in Conquest of Fates means exactly what it sounds like:
🔓 Every card. Free. Forever.
Head to COF.gg, our official card database and deckbuilder. There, you can browse every card, build any deck you want, and print them—all in one click.
- Print at home
- Print professionally
- Cut them out
- Start playing
And this isn’t just a casual-friendly feature. When our Organized Play Network launches (currently in development), proxies will be accepted at every level of competitive play.
Yes, even at Worlds.
We’re dreaming of a day where our first World Champion wins using a fully proxied deck.
So… Why Go Free?
Core reason:
Card availability.
We believe no one should be locked out of playing because a key card costs $20+ on the secondary market.
Sure, part of the fun in TCGs is the hunt—ripping packs, chasing variants, finding that one card. But we’ve all faced the un-fun part: not being able to play a deck because you can’t find or afford what you need.
The booster system is exciting, but it’s also outdated—a relic of the 1950s that’s become a barrier to entry.
You shouldn’t need to gamble or spend hundreds just to build a playable deck.
Play and Collect — Separately
There’s nothing wrong with collecting. In fact, we think collecting should be elevated.
Our stance is simple:
🎴 Playing should be fun.
Collecting should be fun.
Booster packs should never be gambling for playable cards. They should exist for:
- Limited formats like drafting
- Stunning 1-of-1 collectibles
- Guest-artist treatments
- Holographic, serialized, or foil variants
And if your opponent is using paper proxies? Don’t let it bother you. You’re both playing the same game.
Why Should I Collect if Everything is Free?
As a long-time collector myself, I get the thrill of rare cards.
I have binders full of prized pulls, wall-mounted displays, and cards that tell stories. So when I say that Conquest of Fates will offer collectors something new, I mean it.
We’re designing collectible treatments that push the boundaries of what’s possible in a TCG—cards so gorgeous and unique that even playing them would feel like showing off.
We’re still finalizing some long-term details, but here’s what matters most:
